About Catalyst
Bringing Precision Medicine to Every Corner of Alabama
Why Catalyst Matters
Alabama ranks among the highest in the nation for chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer—yet many residents lack access to screening tools and care. We launched Catalyst to change that.
Catalyst brings free, actionable genetic testing directly to Alabama residents through their trusted medical providers.
Providers receive clinical reports they can use in everyday care with information that may help them take better care of their patients.
Participants also contribute to research, helping ensure future discoveries reflect Alabama’s population.
Who We Are
Catalyst is led by Southern Research, a non-profit research institute based in Birmingham, Alabama, with more than 80 years of experience advancing science and improving lives. We work in partnership with primary care clinics, genetic counselors, state leaders, and national experts in precision medicine.
